Character Designs (4/29/13)

Looking at a variety of animals. Studying their form and anatomy. Some of these are just monstrosities...

Doodles (1/26/13)

Above are three of the famous artistes in La La Land. Ard Halcol, "The Great" Stippletini", and Amizar Wuzwurbe. They are each drawn in the style of their own artwork. The story behind this episode is very strange but I love it! Maybe I'll upload the full storyboard for this it.

Paint Adventures (12/17/12)

I never paint digitally so I'm forcing myself to do it now that I have winter break from RISD. Here are some backgrounds from out of my head. I have been very inspired by Eyvind Earle and Mary Blair (if it isn't obvious.) My goal is to paint backgrounds that will allow the viewer to feel as though they can step into the scene. Rich color and atmosphere seem to be the key so far.

From Studies to Character

I decided to push the Silverback Gorilla studies I've doing and make a character with some personality.

Elephant Studies

Here are some studies for my elephant walk cycle. It's interesting that elephants walk on their toes while the skeleton of their foot sits on a pad of fat.

More Hand Studies

I'm still working out my style (which I'll probably never settle on.) Here are some hand studies. I have recently been inspired by artists such as Milt Kahl and Mike Mignola. I've been trying to find a balance between round and sharp for my style. I love drawing spherical knuckles now.

I find that it really helps to think of drawing as sculpting with a piece of clay. By doing so you can shape it in your mind and give the drawing a soft form...Anyways, these hands will be used for more human/centaur characters such as Homeless Snail Man.
